As
usual, I made the annual pilgrimage to Las Vegas to attend COMDEX Fall. For those
who have been living in a cave, or don't work in the computer industry,
COMDEX Fall is one of the largest computer/IT tradeshow in the US. Of course,
having 200,000+ computer users in one place is a special event, but having
the show in Las Vegas is even more fun. This year, I was there for only one
and a half day. This is by choice. Ask most exhibitors why they come back year
after year, and most will sadly shake their heads and tell you "I dunno."
Here's
the PREMIO booth at setup time. The structure is up but the systems are still
in boxes in the background. Setting up the systems is always fun. No matter
how careful you pack and plan, there's always a cable or somethng important
missing...
Another
view of the boxes. The large black cage is where all the boxes goes when
setup is done. The cage then goes into some mysterious storage area during the
duration of the show. And at the last day of the show, during what COMDEX
veterans call appropriately "tear-down," you have to wait for them to roll the cage back to your booth. A few years ago,
we waited almost three HOURS for the cage to arrive. Another good
reason why I personally don't stay around for the whole show.
Manny (Marketing)
and Pete (TX office) chillin' and relaxin' while throwing back a couple of 40s (if
they had it).
The
stage for the PREMIO bingo game. A hint to future rookies, er, first-time, COMDEX exhibitors: always
have something to draw the audience in. The more people you can attract, the
more people will come to your booth because they think they're missing
out on something BIG. While in reality, all you're really doing is giving
away free caps, cups, t-shirts, etc.
