Dinner Show This is the main reason why we came to Japan: to attend Akina Nakamori's last X'mas dinner show of 1997. On CJ's Akina site, we found out that she had one last show on December 26th. We decided to make the reservation on 12/08 or so. After reserving two seats for the show, it was a matter of finding a flight that'll take us there ... without costing an arm and a leg.

We paid 42,000 yen for each ticket. Which works out to be around US$330 per ticket (the currency rate was 1 USD = 130 YEN during that time). Of course, that included dinner and drinks. The dinner itself was all French stuff. Which is great if you like that kinda food. For me, it was all a bit too high class for my taste. But when you paid that much and travelled that far, what the hell, you just gotta eat it all anyway :).

They didn't allow pictures to be taken during the show. Which is too bad, otherwise I'd have tons of pics to post here.

Dinner show ticket We were seated at at table 76, seats 5 and 6. Which is to the far right of the stage, but not all the way to the back. Not the best location in the house, but at least we were able to get some seats. From this table, at least we could somewhat see Akina. Hmmm, at least I think that's her on stage... :)

No smoking, please! One aspect of the Japanese culture that I really dislike is the fact that almost everyone smokes. Not only do male and female smoke, but they also chain smoke like crazy. As a non-smoker, it really gets on my nerve when people around me are smoking, especially when I'm trying to eat. It really makes the food taste like ash.

The show itself was great. Akina would perform a couple of songs then break into a five minute monologue about her personal life. Problem was, I had no idea what she was saying as I don't speak a word (well, maybe a few words) of Japanese! Which, of course, sucks; everyone was laughing at her jokes and I had no clue as to what she was saying. Oh well, at the least the songs were cool.
